Conclusion: “In conclusion, this study showed that the [Acoustic Reflection] method is an effective way to diagnose abutment of an ETT against the tracheal wall in infants. The method is easy to use and non-invasive, and usually requires less than 10 seconds of ventilator disconnection. No adverse effects of the brief disconnection were noted during the study. The [Acoustic Reflection] method therefore appears to be a good tool for
detecting or confirming positional airway obstruction in neonates.”
